Security baggage check?

I understand that there are new security check measures in USA airports which include all pengers having to have a TSA approved lock on their suitcases to allow security to search their bags. The problem is; I have a Samsonite suitcase that has lockable fasteners and nowhere to attach a padlock such as the ones stated. My question is; do I lock my suitcase fasteners and keep the key ready to hand over to security or...do I leave the suitcase unlocked, risking the contents to be lost/stolen/damaged rather than have security break open the locks if the bags are searched after check -in when they are not near me?
