What was New Corp's motive for hacking into 9/11 victims phones?

Maybe I'm a little dense, but it's unclear to me what kind of information they would be looking for. Same goes for the hacking of Milly Dowler and other child murder victims and the 2005 London bombing victims. What kind of news worthy info could they find???
