Ortho Specialists? What did they put in my mouth?

So I just got my wires in today for braces. And i am literally crying because the pain is unbearable. I swear. I don't know what they put in my mouth and why. It's the contraption thing with two circles on the roof of my mouth and it hurts like heck. I am seriously going to die because of these things.
